QuickHonda's Garage - Front bumper removal

Removal of the front bumper on the 88-91 CRX, should also be the same for the Civic

- Remove the two screws from the side of the corner marker light and carefully pull the light forward, towards the front of the vehicle.  It will be tight because of two clips that push into a mount, but it will come out, just pull slowly.  Once it comes out, unclip the wires for its light.  Of course you do this for both sides of the car  :)

- Remove the screw that is inside the corner marker opening. cornerscrew.gif (27898 bytes)
- Remove the two screw that attach the bumper to the fender. sidescrews.gif (43599 bytes)
- Remove the three screws that attact the top of the bumper cover to its support bracket. Sometimes these screws are very hard to get too, if so you may leave them alone.  This will require the removal of the bumper cover and its inner support beam as a whole.  Its actually usually easier anyway. centerscrews.gif (35028 bytes)
- Remove the turn signal lights.  Only the outside screw needs to be removed. turnsignal.gif (27745 bytes)
- Jack the vehicle up (safely).  There are 3 plastic plates, one center and one on each side, that attach to the bottom of the bumper.  There are also a few screws that attach the bumper to the car.  Just use common sense and you'll figure out which ones need to be removed. No pictures.  I took the plastic underside plates off my car years ago and never put them back on.
- Gently pull the sides of the bumper cover outward so that they can slide forward. pullsides.gif (34808 bytes)
- If removing the bumper cover and its support beam as a whole then you will need to remove the two bolts that attach the beam to the car.  They are located inside the turn signal lense opening.  It will feel like the whole bumper will fall but it is actually help in place by two small tabs. beambolts.gif (30988 bytes)
A - If you are removing just the bumper cover you can now carefully pull it forward and remove it.

B - If removing the support beam with the cover attached then you'll need to lift the front of the bumper 1/4 inch before pulling forward.
