88-91 Dash Removal

  1. Removal the rectangular plastic cover in the top center of the dash and unscrew the 12mm bolt hiding behind it.
  2. Remove the side vent covers on the dash and the 12 mm bolts on each side.
  3. Remove the instrument cluster cover.  It has screws behind pop off panels on the top as well as screws that can only be seen by looking straight up from under the steering wheel
  4. Remove the steering wheel.
  5. Remove the turn signal/wiper switch.
  6. From under the dash, remove the wiring harness for the instrument cluster from their plug at the firewall.
  7. Remove a 10mm ground wire next to the cluster wires.
  8. Remove the center console, there are 2 screws on each side and one hiding behind the glove box door.  Once the screws are out, you'll need to unscrew the shifter knob and then lift up on the console and it will come out.  You'll need to play around with the parking brake to get it to clear.
  9. Loosen the screws on the AC control, but do not try to remove the AC controls
on the left of the dash, remove the air handler button and then the black plastic cover
behind it. remove the two phillips screws inside there.
  10. Remove the glove box and the one or two 12mm bolts that are hiding behind it.
  11. The dash should now be ready for removal, gently pull it straight out. Note - the ac controls stay in the car.

I've never tried this myself so I cannot guarantee it is 100% correct.  If you find any mistakes or missing steps please let me know.
